All, regardless of nationality, have to pay Norwegian road tolls. The vehicle owner and the driver are jointly responsible for payment. The automated toll stations are all equipped with a camera that reads the vehicle number plates and toll tags. Foreign registered vehicles, without a toll tag, will be invoiced by Euro Parking Collection plc (EPC).

All foreign vehicles must register the vehicles’s Euro class and fuel type at in order to be charged the correct rate by toll road operators with environmental differentiation. Failure to register will result in the highest rate in tariff group 1 or 2 being charged. 

Register for an EPC account without tag

If you are planning to visit Norway with your foreign car, you may register your vehicle with EPC before your journey. It is optional to register, however, registering for an EPC account will normally reduce the time from your journey to you receiving your invoice. Furthermore, your account will give you access to your invoices, checking due dates, viewing images, registering for e-mail delivery and making payment.

EPC will only invoice foreign vehicles. Norwegian-registered vehicles will be invoiced by the toll road operators. You can check your invoice against the updated price list for tolls in Norway (PDF)

If you are planning to visit Norway with your foreign vehicle for more than two months or on a regular basis, we recommend that you get a AutoPASS contract and a tag.

Toll tag is mandatory for all Commercial vehicles above 3.5 tonnes

What is the legal basis for toll payment?

The legal basis for toll payment in Norway is Vegloven §27 (Road Act), which states that tolls can be used to finance roads, and in some cases also public transport.

Why register foreign rental / leasing cars?

If you register, you as the renter / lessee will receive the invoice directly. If you don’t register, the invoice will be sent to the rental / leasing company. Do I need to make an international bank transfer in order to pay?

No, normally not. In most cases, EPC offers the customer a choice between payment to a bank account in their local currency or to a Norwegian bank account. This option is available in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The invoice is stated in the local currency, based on the exchange rate of the invoice date. It is also possible to pay by VISA or MasterCard.

Do I need to make an international call if I have any questions to EPC?

Questions and complaints should be addressed to EPC online at This will enable EPCs staff to handle your case. For some countries – Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom – it is possible to dial a local number which is redirected to EPC’s multilingual customer support. The price rate will be the same as regular domestic calls in your country. You can also request a call back.

What will the invoice look like?

The invoice will be in the language of the cars nationality for the following 17 countries:

It took some time from I travelled in Norway to when I received the invoice. Why?

Processing data and finding relevant information might take some time. Toll passages are also put on hold for short periods to enable more toll passages to be included in the same invoice. Therefore, the invoicing time may be longer than you are used to. 

I have been charged an additional fee of 300 NOK. Why?

You have not paid the invoice for passages before 01.10.2017 in due time.

Why does the invoice include images of my car?

The image is captured at an automatic toll station. If a vehicle does not have a valid On-board Unit (toll-tag)an image of the licence plate is automatically taken in order to connect the vehicle to its registered owner. I was driving at night. Why are the images bright?

The brightness of the image is auto-adjusted in order to read the license plate number.

I have received an invoice from the EPC, although I had an AutoPASS tag. What happened?

In rare cases it may be that a payment point you have passed is not registered by our system. If the invoice from EPC is just for the road toll, it has to be paid (using the payment methods on the invoice).
