These rate groups apply when passing through tolls in Norway:

Rate group 1

  • Vehicles with a total weight up to 3,500 kg, as well as all vehicles regardless of weight in vehicle group M1.
  • Heavy private cars: For vehicles with a total weight above 3,500 kg in vehicle group M1 to be included in fee group 1, requirements apply concerning electronic tags and valid contracts.

Rate group 2

  • Vehicles with a total weight up to 3,500 kg, with the exception of vehicles registered in vehicle group M1 in Autosys.
  • Mandatory toll tag: Vehicles that are registered to a company or used for commercial purposes must have an electronic toll tag with a valid contract for rate group 2. Read more about mandatory tags for heavy vehicles

Vehicle groups with environmentally differentiated toll rates

  • Toll facilities that use environmentally differentiated toll rates may operate with up to four different toll rates for vehicles in group 1 and group 2.
  • Rate group 1 is divided into zero-emissions vehicles, plug-in hybrids, diesel, and other (petrol, gas, ethanol, etc.).
  • Rate group 2 is divided into zero-emissions vehicles, plug-in hybrids, Euro VI and Pre-Euro VI.

All foreign vehicles must register the vehicles’s Euro class and fuel type at www.autopass.no/ed in order to be charged the correct rate by toll road companies with environmental differentiation. Failure to register will result in the highest rate in tariff group 1 or 2 being charged.

Mopeds/motorcycles only pay toll fees at the sole manual toll station: Atlanterhavstunnelen, which uses separate fee categories.

More on exceptions and exemptions

The M1 vehicle category includes passenger vehicles with a maximum of eight seats in addition to the driver's seat. Most motorhomes, camper vans and certain large cars are included in this vehicle category.

There is a requirement of an electronic tag with a valid agreement in order for vehicles above 3,501 kg in vehicle group M1 to be included in rate group 1.

This scheme applies to all toll stations, with the exception of toll fees on ferries. The manual toll station, Atlanterhavstunnelen, also has additional rate groups: Read more at www.atlanterhavstunnelen.no

Norwegian vehicles

Norwegian vehicles in vehicle group M1 with an AutoPASS toll tag and valid agreement, are automatically included in rate group 1.

Foreign-registered cars with an AutoPASS toll tag

Owners of foreign-registered vehicles in vehicle group M1 with an AutoPASS toll tag and a valid agreement must contact their toll road company to ensure that they are charged in rate group 1.

With other types of EasyGo toll tags

Owners of vehicles above 3,500 kg in category M1 using different types of EasyGo toll tags than AutoPASS, must contact their tag issuer to ensure that they are charged according to rate group 1 at toll stations in Norway.
