About the toll stations
There are about 230 toll stations in Norway for which you can pay using the AutoPASS tag. All these toll stations are marked
The only manual toll station in Norway at which you cannot use the AutoPASS tag when passing through it is the Atlanterhavs
tunnel. Here you must stop and pay before driving through.
When you drive through automatic toll plazas without a toll tag, a photograph is taken of your vehicle registration plate.
The registration number on the plate is checked against the Norwegian Public Road Administration’s Central Register of Motor
Vehicles. An invoice is sent to the vehicle owner containing information about the passage, the vehicle and the amount to
be paid. The invoice is sent by post and with no additional charge. This applies to Norwegian as well as foreign vehicles.
Automatic toll stations are marked with the symbol:
What the traffic lights in AutoPASS stations mean
When you drive through an AutoPASS toll station, you will see a green light, a white light or no light.
- Green light: Means that your tag has been registered and you have been charged, via your contract.
- White light: Means that your tag has been registered and you have been charged, via your contract, but that it is now time to renew your
contract and pay. If you have a post-payment contract, a white light means that an invoice has been sent. If you have a pre-payment
contract, a white light means that the balance on your contract is low.
- Yellow/no light: If you pass through a toll station without a tag, or if your tag is not registered as you pass, no light or yellow light
will show. This may mean that your contract has been blocked, that your tag is not working, or that there is a problem with
the toll road facility. Contact your toll road operator. When no light shows in the traffic lights, a photograph is taken
of your vehicle's registration plate.
- Video cameras: At certain toll stations, a video camera will be activated if you do not have a tag or if you are outside of the lane. Your
car will be registered and an invoice will be issued. Please get in touch with the toll road operator you have a contract
with if you have any questions regarding the above.
